Cheats Potato Gratin

Cheats Potato Gratin

This cheats potato gratin or dauphinoise is so easy to put together. The cheats bit is that you get to use a muffin tray to stack the potatoes in. Hello?! How easy does that sound already? It is great served as a side with so many meals. Also, It is a recipe I think, everyone should know or have.

Parsley, Caper and Lemon Pesto Pasta with Macerated Tomatoes

Parsley, Caper and Lemon Pesto Pasta with Macerated Tomatoes

A great way to serve pasta is this Parsley, Caper and Lemon Pesto Pasta with macerated tomatoes. It isn’t a creamy, saucy, cheesy affair. It is simplicity at its best. Fresh, vibrant, zesty and nutty.

I prefer simplicity with pasta dishes and I like to use fresh pasta where I can. There is a great deli in Leicester that sells some. which is great because frankly I don’t have the time to make my own. Although I almost brought a pasta making thingy the other day.

Dill Daal and Crispy Sea Bass

Dill Daal and Crispy Sea Bass

Dill daal and crispy sea bass, aka my dream food. This daal and I are well acquainted. Best friends if you will.

People always look surprised when I mention that it’s a favourite, because really the daal is very simple to make. The fragrant dill adds so much flavour to the daal and it has always been one of my favourite mummy dishes.  When I was at my mum’s recently, I asked her to make it again. I don’t ever ask my mum to make anything for me  and of course, I could have made it myself but there’s something about mum’s cooking that makes it more special. It feels like home/being a kid all over again.

Masala and Ginger Chai

Masala and Ginger Chai

Masala and Ginger Chai would be an everyday drink in our household if my husband had his way, but it is more like once a week. I feel like it is way too heavy to have every day! Especially the way he likes it. I actually prefer a Yorkshire Tea or English Breakfast. Don’t get me wrong, I do like masala and ginger chai but I have it once a month at the most. It feels like a full meal for me.

French onion soup

French onion soup

I love french onion soup but not quite as much as my husband does and here is my version!!

So here we are in 2016. How fast did last year go? Everyone I know seems to be starting a detox or cleanse of some sort today to coincide with going back to work (aka reality). We are actually starting our cleanse tomorrow, with some travelling and a gazillion jobs on our agenda today, it will be difficult to manage the organisation of eating well too. So, just before we return home we are having our final day of indulgence. Talking of indulgence..

French onion soup

This isn’t a soup for anyone thinking detox right now. This is a soup for anyone thinking comfort right now.
