Apple Sauce

This Apple Sauce recipe is made for similar reasons to this pumpkin puree recipe. Come Autumn the news feed is full of apple based bakes and cakes and I am yet to find apple puree in my supermarket. I am told it is next to the baby food which is an aisle I always forget to go down. 


It is handy for apple pancakes, apple cupcakes, apple cakes, apple anything basically. Anyway apple puree is very easy to make and luckily we have an apple tree with an abundance of apples. 

So much to do over the next week and it is getting rather stressful! Do you also have those weeks? I guess everyone does right? I am trying not to get overwhelmed by all the things on my rather large list. It’s doing my flaming head in. Let’s move on..

So a part of my naturopathy/nutrition course is to write down our eating patterns and keep an emotional diary to go alongside it. It has been very revealing. I don’t think we realise how huge that connection is. I will of course update you guys about that journey soon probably in June when the first lot of coursework is due and there is quite a bit of it. I wish it was just the diary! Actually though, any work is great for our development and understanding. 

Isn’t this time of year great? Aside from the kids with snotty noses and phlegm filled throats obviously. I love that it is cool but not that wet yet. When the rain comes and the leaves get soggy, it isn’t as pretty out there and also people always talk about the smell of wet leaves like it’s a good thing. Not in my book. It doesn’t work for me, at all. 

Apple Sauce


  • 3 lbs of apples peeled, cored, and chopped into 1 inch cubes (Granny Smiths or Golden Delicious)
  • Zest of 1/2 lemon
  • 3 tbsp lemon juice
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • 1 pinch nutmeg
  • 4 tbsp dark brown sugar (optional)
  • 1 cup of water
  • 1/2 tsp of salt


  1. Add all ingredients to a pan, and turn the heat on high.
  2. Bring to a boil, then cover and reduce the heat down to low.
  3. Simmer for 20 minutes or until the apples have softened a lot.
  4. Stir frequently and add more water if necessary.
  5. Blend using a hand blender.
