Hello! How cold is it today?

It’s November – like, wow already– IT’S NOVEMBER!!! – and I am all about the cosy life right now. When cosy is the aim and healthy is trying to get involved, a basic porridge recipe is essential. 

I am similar to Goldilocks..in that I like porridge, I like a good chair and I love a warm bed. I just don’t break into peoples houses to get any of those things!

So basically, I would encourage you to get your Goldilocks on and make porridge for breakfast, sink into a lovely chair, pop your PJs on and then go to bed. 

I am going to veer off topic today and if you haven’t already skipped to the recipe, I love you already. I mean, i love you if you have skipped this bit too but you wouldn’t know that because you skipped reading this and here I am rambling on to you and you aren’t here. Its like talking to the husband. Ha!

I have just got in the house and boy it is cold out there. I forced myself out because my mind needed fresh air. I was over analysing and being super self critical after a couple of MAJOR setbacks yesterday. Usually I would tell myself that it was a learning curve and blah blah blah but in my already tired state, I cried out of exhaustion and frustration. I spoke to a friend who talked about going out for a walk and i talked to my hubby (who listened!) and he said all the things I already knew but needed reminding of. So today, I gave myself permission to shove the to do list and go out for a lovely walk.  Cue head freeze but clear happy mind and lovely thoughts. 

Now I am home, I will finish typing this up and then pop my slippers on, make myself some porridge, get distracted by our back garden visiting cat and hug the heater. I will not touch my phone because I need a break from it quite frankly. Then I may have a nap because my daughter woke me up at 2.30 am to tell m.. basically nothing and then I couldn’t get to sleep till 5 am. Lovely.

By the way, you may be questioning the need for this recipe. I promise it is a need. People ask for a basic porridge recipe all the time and then I message them. This post means that people can just access the recipe via the blog.

A basic porridge recipe

How to make porridge and make that inner Goldilocks smile

Cook Time 15 minutes
Total Time 15 minutes
Servings 1

Ingredients

  • 100 grams Oats
  • 250 ml Water or Milk of choice
  • Pinch of salt
  • 1 tbsp Maple Syrup or Honey
  • Toppings of choice

Instructions

  1. Pop the oats and milk or water into a large pan over medium heat. 


  2. Stir in a pinch of salt and bring to a simmer.

  3. Simmer and stir for 5 - 8 minutes.

  4. Add sweetener of choice and any toppings you desire.

Recipe Notes

You may need to add more milk or water. Depends on the oats/milk you use. Sometimes I use up to 500ml
