Caramelised Pear and Blueberry Oats
Caramelised Pear and Blueberry Oats – My obsession with porridge oats continues. I think it is justified because oats are hearty, delicious and perfect for winter. This time we have another cosy version with caramelised pears.
I think pears are just so incredibly beautiful. However I have a love hate relationship with them. You will never see me eating a pear unless it is caramelised. I much prefer apples. An apple a day..and all that. Bo dayee.
Then come the oats. I love oats/porridge and anything that contains oats. Yesterday I made the most delicious flapjacks. It is strange how often I have been asked for a flapjack recipe so I thought I would make some yesterday which I have to retest because my oven was dodgy yesterday and so instead of what I assumed would take 20 minutes, it took 40 minutes to bake flapjacks and even then they weren’t properly done but they were so tasty. So once my lovely oven is fixed, I will be making them again to see exactly how long they need.
So guys, it was never my intention put this recipe up. I just happened to have a pic of my breakfast on my phone and I thought I would share it one morning via instagram but it has been requested and clicked on so many times that I felt I had to share it. Sorry I didn’t share it sooner!
The Christmas holidays have officially started and we are at home for a few days before we go to London and then up North possibly. I don’t mean Scotland. I can’t hack the cold. By the way, I had the loveliest dream about Scotland. We had moved there and we were living in the most beautiful location ever. It had these little goats roaming around and with all the greenery, streams, lakes and rivers it was a nature lovers dream. There was even a beach that popped up at one point. Anyway, i hope you enjoy these oats. Let me know of you make them!
- 100 grams Oats
- 375 ml Water or Milk of your Choice
- Pinch Salt
- 1/4 tsp Cinnamon powder
- 1 tbsp Maple Syrup
- 2 Pears Sliced
- 1 tbsp Coconut Oil
- 1 tbsp Honey or Maple Syrup
- 10 - 15 Blueberries
Bring the water/milk to a boil in a small pot/pan. Once boiling stir in the salt, oats and cinnamon. Turn the heat to low and and cook for 15 minutes or until the water is absorbed and the oats are tender. Stir in the maple syrup.
Meanwhile melt the butter and honey or maple syrup in a pan and add the pears. Cover the pan and cook over a medium/low heat for about 10 minutes (this depends on how ripe they are) until almost tender. Keep an eye on them to make sure they aren't catching.
Divide the oats between 2 bowls and add the pears and blueberries. Serve warm
