Chocolate and Chai Porridge
This chocolate and chai porridge is seriously delicious. Creamy oats with deep, rich dark chocolate and the flavours of an aromatic chai.Yes please! This recipe can be made gluten free, dairy free and vegan.
This porridge is one that my kids request ALL the time. As soon as I take the oats out they begin ‘mummy will you make that chocolate one please?! The one from your blog…’ and they don’t stop until I have made it. It is like another version of ‘are we there yet?’ I just told them that I wrote that in this post and now they are both singing at the top of their lungs in unison (makes a change) about chocolate porridge. Help me please! Bye ear drums.
I am fasting at the moment and sometimes I wonder why I write about food during Ramadan. It’s hard bruv. Describing food and looking at photos of food should just not happen during this month. The food should just magically land on the table/dastarkan at Iftar/Dinner time. No prep or drooling required. I mean today, I was due to make these cheat day mexican chicken burgers for the family. Just the thought makes my mouth fill with water.
I began typing this last friday. Yes, over a week ago. Its been a pretty traumatic week to be honest but I am not yet sure if I am ready to talk about the goings on, on the blog yet. I realise there has been a lull in activity on my social media as well as the blog but sometimes something happens that just knocks you off your feet and brings your world to a stand still. My priority right now is my family and they are more important then anything else. In short my daughter was involved in an accident and whilst I am not ready to talk about it, what I will say is that her courage has been inspiring. She is only 4 years old and she has been a real trooper. Please do make a little prayer for her.
- 1 cup oats or Gluten Free Oats
- 1 cup water
- 1 cup almond milk (I love Almond Breeze)
- 1 tbsp cocoa powder
- 1 tsp chia seeds
- 1 tsp maple syrup
- 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
- 1/2 tsp cinnamon
- 1/4 tsp nutmeg
- 1/8 tsp cardamom
- 1/4 tsp ginger
- Dark Chocolate melted (Around 15g - 20g)
- Toasted Seeds
- Add all ingredients to a small sauce pan and heat over a medium heat.
- Bring to boil on, then lower the heat and leave to simmer, stirring occasionally until you reach the consistency you like. (You may need to add more water).
- Transfer to a bowl, drizzle over the chocolate and sprinkle over the seeds.
