Green Detox Spiriluna Smoothie
This year I am detoxing before the new year. That is where this Green Detox Spiriluna Smoothie comes in. Spirulina is a nutritious green algae that’s high in B vitamins and minerals like iodine, beta-carotene, antioxidants, iron, and manganese. It’s also 60% protein and a complete protein, containing all essential amino acids. I buy mine via Amazon here.
Spirulina includes a concentrated source of vitamins and minerals and is very detoxifying and alkalising to the body, which is why it’s considered a ‘super food’. I’ve been including it in my smoothies for some time now. As I have mentioned previously, I am not a smoothie person but I really like this one. Spiriluna on its own tastes awful. (Hey, at least I’m honest). That is why I choose to combine it with fruits to take away that really grassy seaweedy flavour.
Spirulina is a great source of other nutrients including: ‘It contains vitamins B-1(thiamine), B-2 (riboflavin), B-3(nicotinamide), B-6 (pyridoxine), B-9 (folic acid), vitamin C, vitamin D, vitamin A and vitamin E. It is also a source of potassium, calcium, chromium, copper, iron, magnesium, manganese, phosphorus, selenium, sodium and zinc. Spirulina contains many pigments which may be beneficial and bioavailable.’ Wikipedia
I am not really into smoothie diets. I can’t do it. I can do soups but smoothies..no. I already feel cold all the time. However I can manage a smoothie a day. This is the perfect smoothie to have daily because it is thought to be the most nutrient dense food on earth.
This smoothie is made by combining mango, pineapple, coconut milk, bananas, spiriluna and chia. I add fruits because it really helps mask the flavour of the spiriluna.
Nutrient Dense (I know I am repeating myself)
Quick and Easy to make
- 1 medium Banana peeled and sliced
- 1/2 cup Pineapple chunks
- 1/2 cup Mango chunks
- 1 tbsp Chia Seeds
- 1 flat tsp Spirulina powder
- 220ml Coconut Milk
- Place all the ingredients in a blender and blend until smooth and creamy.
- If too thick, thin with water or more coconut milk. If too thin, thicken with more fruit.
- Taste and adjust flavor as needed. (You can add honey or maple syrup if you are struggling with the flavour!)
- Serve immediately!
