When I put this Honey, five spice and sesame chicken on the table or floor (we eat on the floor at home. Not on the carpet like..), the room went quiet and my family starting tucking in. I served it with rice and no one spoke until they had devoured their plate of deliciousness. Bliss!

This was the first time I used five spice in a chicken recipe. I know it isn’t an unusual ingredient but I don’t really use it much. I make so many different types of chicken recipes like for example these marinades for chicken breast because it is my favourite meat and I avoid red meat as much as possible. You can mix the ingredients up if you wish, the point is to balance the flavours as much as possible. I promise you it will be really really tasty, so long as you stick to similar ingredients. Although changing the five spice will change the flavour completely and then its just a different recipe altogether!

This is the kind of recipe that is great to make ahead too and therefore perfect to prep on the weekend as part of your meal prep. Basically you would just whack the chicken and marinade into a ziplock bag and pop it straight into the freezer. Or you could cook it and pop it in the fridge and have it early in the week.

As mentioned, this is best served with rice and a crunchy salad. I love this Asian Slaw with it.

The main ingredients for the marinade include:

Honey

Five Spice

Soy Sauce

Sesame Seeds

Spring Onions

I hope you enjoy it! Please let me know if you make it! 🙂

Recipe Notes

When I use Soy Sauce, I don't add salt because I find it gets too salty.
