London Halal Food Festival
So unless you have been under a rock, you will have heard about the London Halal Food Festival. Basically a celebration of Halal food and drink where Muslims could for once, eat EVERYTHING in sight. Well..aside from each other. The event took place on the 20th – 21st August. Over the weekend, thousands of halal food enthusiasts descended upon Tobacco Dock for the London Halal Food Festival. One half of Tiffin and Tea went along, whilst the other half minded the kids! With the UK Muslim population at an all time high of almost 3 million, a Halal Food Festival was always going to be a popular event.
There were also demonstrations from:
- Asma Khan – founder of Darjeeling Express and chef on BMTV cooking show
- Ruksana Shain – founder of Healthy Kitchen. Ruksana appears as a presenter tracing lamb from farm to fork on the Healthy Kitchen TV cooking show that is currently being aired on Sky 845 British Muslim TV.
- Nigel Brown – regularly demonstrates at food festivals and events, offering a wealth of experience. He has also cooked for the likes of Nelson Mandela and Princess Anne.
Here are some pictures of the venue:
There were a hoard of exhibitors in the food ares. Some of whom included:
Ali Imdad is best known for his time on The Great British Bake Off, which returns to our screens tomorrow!! EEEEK! Personally I have had some interaction with Ali in the past and found him to be a very down to earth and humble person. His passion for his craft is inspiring, he continuously ups his game and his dessert videos are drool worthy. I came across Ali on social media after his appearance on GBBO. He had been putting up some recipes on Facebook and I tried this one. You really need to try it! I have made it several times since! At the time, I was going through a very anxious phase in my life. I felt isolated, lonely, exhausted and my anxiety was at an all time high. Making that one cake paved a path towards my starting my own blog. It rekindled my love for baking and cooking and made me enthusiastic about life again!
Ali is the head chef for Artisan based in Birmingham, which is a dessert parlour that is on our, to visit list!
Also about 2 years after we climbed Mount Snowdon with Islamic Relief, i came across our photos on my laptop and there he was! I was so battered and out of it, that i didn’t realise he was one of the people on the climb with us. SMH!
The Apple Blue Patisserie
One of the stalls that had everyone snap chatting/insta videoing was this one.
The Apple Blue Patisserie are an independent patisserie based in South London who create their own delicious and memorable desserts. They certainly attracted a lot of attention. It was great to see a place that is doing something other then the bog standard desserts (please don’t get me started) that we see from one dessert parlour to the next AND doing it so well!
I think everyone knows about Mecca Cola. In my opinion, they have come on leaps and bounds in terms of their branding and taste. When a coke enthusiast tells you that it tastes the same as Coke, then you have to listen! They also give 20% of their profits to charity! 🙂
A few posts ago, we were gushing about how delicious the meat from Halalnivore is! Halalnivore are a gourmet meat company that provide two options for ordering meat. You can either Build Your Own Box or choose a Pre-Selected Gourmet Box. When you receive your meat you also learn where the meat was sourced from, get free recipe cards and a handy card that gives you tips on cooking.
For more info on Halalnivore, read our full post here!
This company immediately caught our attention with their Nojito drinks! The Mocktail Company sell non alcoholic cocktail alternatives (aka Mocktails), which was a gap in the market that are glad is filled. We cannot wait to sample more flavours soon!
Everyone loves The Datery and what’s not to love?
Anbar Medina dates covered in Belgian chocolate..Hmmmm just the thought makes my mouth water. The dates are stuffed with either walnuts, almonds or pistachios and are available in white, milk or dark chocolate. These dates have been all over social media and is it any wonder why? These would make the perfect gift for anyone – male or female.
Yaki Maki products were being sold from a food truck that certainly stood out! Food included the intriguing sushi burrito and delicious chicken katsu!

We thoroughly enjoyed our time at London Halal Food Festival and hope to return to a bigger, better and even more delicious festival next year! We spoke to several attendees and exhibitors who were equally enthusiastic about the event.
