Have a scoop of this, have a scoop of that.. what? NICE CREAM! If you are a mother and you haven’t heard that song, do not introduce your children to it. I changed the word ice to nice here and it won’t.stop.playing.in.my.head.
This is a ‘by popular demand’ post. I have had several messages about my instagram post for nice cream via the website and so I thought I would do a little post on the website for it!
I know that nice cream isn’t a new concept but it is one that is always popular and how can you go wrong with ice cream made with one secret magical ingredient!
The thing about nice cream is that it is really nice.
It doesn’t taste the same as ice cream but it is pretty good and super healthy. It’s kind of ideal for anyone watching their calorie intake/waist lines because you are getting all the creaminess and sweetness of a dessert without consuming too much sugar.
The one thing I would say is that if you do not have a good blender, do not make this. You need a pretty strong blender to blend frozen bananas. I actually used my food processor and used the pulse setting on it.
I am typing this at 4am because my neighbours alarm has been going off since 2 am and I cannot get back to sleep and then my husbands alarm started at 4 am. (Such fun.Trying not to scream).
A lovely fellow blogger also did an adaptation of the nice cream, which can be found here: Foods from Africa . I love how she has brought her memories to life. It feels like you are transported back in time with her and you are hearing all the same sounds and can feel the excitement when the street peddler selling your favourite snack is coming down the road.
I suppose in the UK, one can only compare this to the ice cream van which fills the streets with over excited kids. A sound that has me in a panic as yet again I realise that keeping money in the house would be really wise. This is when frozen bananas are handy especially when combined with chocolate. The kids love that! A recent addition being the candy floss man who always looks like he is struggling to keep up with demand!
So here is the recipe for that creamy, healthy and delicious nice cream i have been talking about and yes it really is THAT easy. You can add any toppings of your choice or no toppings at all. You could adapt the ingredients and add some cocoa powder instead with some mint essence. It is a very easily adaptable recipe. Go crazy! Enjoy. 🙂
