    What is Blackened Shrimp?

Blackening seasoning is made up of punchy herbs and spices and the blackening cooking style is common in Cajun cooking.

The brain child of Chef Paul Prudhomme.

Blackening means that meat, fish or shrimp/prawns coated in blackening seasoning (see below), is pan seared at a high temperature meaning it cooks super quick.

Making it ideal for busy days!

I have used the seasoning and style in this chicken fajitas recipe too.

    Ingredients

Blackening Spice is made up of:

    Smoked Paprika

    Cumin Powder

    Cayenne Pepper

    Garlic Granules

    Onion Powder

    Dried Thyme

Brown Sugar (This helps with caramelisation, but it can be skipped)

    Dried Oregano

    Salt

    Black pepper

    Other Ingredients:

    Tacos/Mini Wraps

    Shrimp - Devined, Peeled

    Oil or Ghee

    Pickles

    Salad

    Sauces of your choice

    How to Make Blackened Seasoning

Cooking Blackened Shrimp is so easy to make. couldn’t be easier to make.

You can make extra seasoning if you like.

Combine Smoked Paprika, Cayenne Pepper, Garlic, Onion Powder, Sugar, Dry Thyme, Dry Oregano, Salt and Pepper in a bowl and mix to combine.

How to Make Blackened Shrimp Tacos

To make the seasoning combine  (as above) dry herbs and spices in a bowl and whisk to combine.

I forgot to do that below so just added seasoning on top then mixed through.

Add to the Shrimp and coat thoroughly with your hands.

    Easy peasy!

How to know if the Shrimp is done

It is really easy to overcook shrimp. Here are 2 ways to know when the shrimp is ready:

Colour - The colour changes from grey to pink.

Size and Shape - The Shrimp will shrink and become more closed into a tight c/o shape.

    Ways to serve Blackened Shrimp

If you would prefer not to use them in Tacos, try the Shrimp in Pasta, Spaghetti, with Rice, with Veg, in a Salad, in Lettuce Wraps or whatever else you like.

    Storage

You can store leftover Shrimp/Prawns in the following ways:

    Fridge

Allow the Shrimp to cool then pop in an airtight container and store in the fridge for 3-4 days.

    Freezer

Allow the shrimp to cool then place it in an airtight container and freeze for up to 6 months.

Thaw in the fridge overnight before reheating.

    To Reheat

Once thawed, add Oil to a pan and simply warm up till the Shrimp feels warm. This shouldn't take long.
