It has been a crazy week so far huh? But in amongst all of the chaos, there has been some moments of pure joy. We have seen communities coming together, a lot of kindness, people being extremely resourceful and we have witnessed togetherness like never before. Stress/Worry can impact health negatively and I want to try and share some happiness and positivity to uplift anyone who needs it.
I know that not everyone is able to experience joy at the moment and some people are experiencing extreme anxiety and stress. I really hope that anyone experiencing any sad feelings, is able to over come them. The times are uncertain and some people are struggling both mentally and financially. I really hope that we can find a way of helping each other navigate through the uncertainty we find ourselves in.
Here are some of the things that have brought some joy this week:
The Penguins! – A group of cute penguins were given guided tours of the aquarium where they live after it was closed by coronavirus. The birds were allowed to have a look around the Sheed Aquarium in Chicago after it shuttered for two weeks on March 13 to try and prevent the spread of the killer disease. Staff shared the first tour clip of crested penguin Wellington being given a tour of the facility’s Amazon-themed area, with the little bird appearing enraptured by the sight of exotic fish swimming in a glass-fronted tank. See the vid here.
Italian neighbours singing in solidarity – Balcony singing in solidarity has been a growing reaction to the coronavirus lockdown in Italy this weekend. I have seen a video of this happening in Spain too.
Covid Kindness – A new Twitter account has been created, specifically to share hopeful news and acts of kindness/solidarity during the Covid19 outbreak.
Free Parcels – A couple in Scotland created free packs containing hand sanitiser and face masks, to hand out to the sick and elderly. Creating a ripple effect of people doing the same.
Pret Offer to NHS Staff – Are giving out free hot drinks to NHS workers with 50% off all other items too!
The Peace Centre, Leicester are offering Coronovirus Self Isolation Support
Made in Hackney are doing a fundraiser to deliver food to people who need it.
Children held a Minecraft school graduation – Coronovirus quarantine measure weren’t going to stop one primary school class in Japan from celebrating their graduation. These kids were so determined not to miss out, they built their virtual graduation ceremony – on Minecraft.
The National Trust released a statement to say – ‘We’ll work, where possible, to keep as many of our gardens and parklands open, free of charge, alongside coast and countryside, to encourage the nation to enjoy open space, while observing social distancing measures.
Bread Ahead are giving free Insta live bread making classes. Literally the opportunity of a lifetime!
Massimo Bottura is doing free cooking videos via his instagram.
Monday Zoom Communion – A great way to bring people together and create community.
People have put together a number of ideas for how to entertain kids – and routines/lesson plans. Here is a list that I was sent recently.
Many many people are sharing recipes freely – via their social media platforms with all manner of tips and tricks.
Supermarkets – Opening just for older people for 1 hour.
There have been random acts of kindness all round with people handing out flowers, some painting kindness messages on rocks, people posting postcards offering help through letterboxes, teachers offering online help and the list goes on.
I am sure that there are many many more beautiful examples of kindness and many more moments of joy to share. I hope that this is a sign of things to come and this kindness continues and reconnects us to each other so we as communities can stand together stronger, after all this is over.
I would love to hear from you – What has given you a little nit of joy during these unpredictable times? Has anybody made you smile? Have people come together in your communities to support each other? Please comment below or on social media. #strongertogether #joyincommunity #joyintogetherness
