Ingredients
  

  • 500 g Halloumi 2 Blocks, cut into 12 fries each
  • 125 g Plain Flour
  • 3/4 tsp Salt
  • 2 tsp Smoked Paprika
  • 1 tsp Cayenne Pepper
  • 3 tsp Garlic Powder
  • Pinch Black Pepper
  • 1 Egg Beaten
  • 1 l Vegetable Oil For deep frying

Instructions
 

  • Pat the Halloumi fry with paper towels and chop into 24 fries.
  • In a large plate combine the flour, salt, smoked paprika, cayenne pepper, garlic and black pepper. Mix well.
  • Coat the Halloumi in the egg, then in the flour, then back in the egg, then back into the flour.
  • Add the oil ito a medium sauce pan over a high heat. Once ready, add the Halloumi Fries to the oil and fry for 2 - 3 minutes. Smother in sour cream and serve!

Notes

Variations

  • You can shallow fry Halloumi fries in a frying pan instead of deep frying. 
  • Make Mozzarella Sticks instead by using Mozzarella Cheese in place of Halloumi. You can use any Cheese Sticks actually.
  • Stir some dry or fresh herbs into the flour mixture.
  • Use different spices to change things up.

Top Tips 

  • Make sure the oil is hot before adding the Halloumi. If the Oil isn't hot enough, it will absorb the oil rather and rather then become crispy, the fries will become soggy. 
  • Nutritional info is based on the Halloumi Fries without the Oil or Dips

How to Air fry Halloumi Fries

Make the Halloumi Fries as per the recipe.
Spray with a little oil.
Place in a single layer in the Air Fryer basket and cook at 200 C for about 4-6 minutes on each side. 

What to serve with Halloumi Fries

Halloumi Fries can be eaten alone but they are even more delicious served with dips.
I like to serve them with a Sour Cream, Sweet Chili Sauce.
You can serve them with any dipping sauce such as:
Plain Greek Yoghurt flavoured with Harissa 
Plain Greek Yoghurt flavoured with Garlic and Tahini
Ranch Dressing
Green Chutney
Tsatsiki Sauce
Garlic Sauce

Storage for Halloumi Fries

Halloumi Fries are best served straight out of the oven. 
That way they retain their crispness. 
However they do keep well in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days. 
If you don’t mind that the cheese won’t be as crisp, serve it in a Halloumi salad or wrap. 
I wouldn’t recommend reheating them. 

How to make ahead

I wouldn’t recommend making the recipe all the way ahead of time but you can either keep everything ready to dredge just before making or dredge before hand and store in the fridge for up to 3 days.

Can I bake Halloumi Fries in the oven?

Yes. To do this, spray the coated fries with plenty of oil and bake on a baking sheet/baking tray lined with baking/parchment paper at 200 C/Gas Mark 6/390F for 15 minutes, turning half way through.

Are Halloumi Fries Healthy?

They can be. This version is deep fried so I would say no but you can Air Fry or Oven Bake them to make them healthier.
