Notes
How to make Croffles with Puff Pastry
Roll a sheet of thawed Puff Pastry onto a floured surface. Cut horizontally across to create 2 strips. Cut each strip into triangles. At this stage you can add a filling such as Nutella to make Nutella Croffles or even Sweetened Cream Cheese. Don’t add too much as the filling will ooze out and the croissants won’t bake properly.Roll the puff pastry up to create a croissant. To do this, roll up from the larger side until a croissant shape is formed. Then continue with the recipe as normal.
Top Tips
CroissantsI use thawed frozen unbaked croissants in this recipe. You can use Unbaked croissant dough, Crescent Dough (in the USA), or Puff Pastry Dough cut into triangles.Filling QuantityIf using Puff Pastry, don’t add too much as the filling will ooze out and the croissants won’t bake.Waffle IronGrease the waffle iron so that the croffle can be removed easily from the waffle plate. SugarYou can brush over some egg or butter before adding to the bowl of sugar to help it adhere but I don’t think it is necessary.Cooking TimeDon’t be tempted to over bake as the sugar will burn. 1 - 2.5 minutes is usually enough. They will continue to crisp after they are removed from the waffle plate.
