Who doesn't love a Banofee Pie? In this Banoffee Trifle recipe, you get all the delicious flavours of banoffee but in double layers. The dessert makes a gorgeous centrepiece and is ideal for get togethers.

300gCaramelA thick one
400gCustard
100gChocolatechopped finely or grated or melted if you prefer, you can also use a chocolate sauce like the ones that are used for ice creams

Instructions
Slice half the cake into pieces and add to the trifle dish. Add half the milk over the top.
Crush Digestives with a rolling pin in a bag or in a food processor.
Melt Butter and add to crushed Digestives. Mix together to form a crumb.
Whip cream with sugar until stiff peaks are formed.
Layer half the caramel, digestive crumble, bananas, custard, cream and chocolate on top of the cake.
Repeat layers.
Place the banoffee trifle in the fridge until you're ready to serve.

Tips and FAQ's
Layers - You can do a single layer or multiple layers.DIY? - In this recipe, pretty much everything is store brought but you can make your own biscuits, cake, caramel if you prefer. I have in the past made a genoise sponge for the bottom layer and it was delightful but the idea of this dessert is ease and I don't envision myself doing that again. Caramel - You can use the Carnation brand or if you prefer make you own. You can also use a thick store brought caramel. Trifle Container - I used this one but even a rectangular/square dish will work. It will need to be deep though.Bananas - Use bananas that are ripe but not overly ripe. They need to be firm so bananas with black spots on the outside won't work.Storage (Fridge/Freezer/Make Ahead) - Store banoffee trifle in the refrigerator right after making. It is best served straight from the fridge and consumed within 2 days. Try not to leave it out for long. This dessert can't be frozen!Can I make an individual banoffee trifles? Yes you can. You will need approx 10 - 12 small trifle dishes/clear cups.Can I make banoffee trifle the night before? Yes. 1 day in advance is perfect.
