Easy Healthier Chocolate Chip Flapjacks - Homemade Flapjacks are an oaty snack bar that are easy to make and delicious too. You only need a few simple ingredients and 5 minutes hands on time to make them. The Oats, Chocolate Chips and Raisins are held together with Butter, Golden Syrup and Eggs. This portable and filling bake can be enjoyed as a snack on a busy day, an easy breakfast and can be added to school/work lunchboxes.
Preheat the oven to 200 C/400 F/Gas Mark 6. Line and grease a 8 x 8 inch cake tin with parchment paper. Make sure to leave overhang.
Place the Butter and Golden Syrup in a pan and melt them together over a medium heat until the golden syrup has loosened.Remove from the heat.
Pour the Oats into the Golden Syrup mixture and mix well.
Stir in the Chocolate Chips and Raisins.
Mix in the Egg.
Tip the oat mixture into the prepared tin and press down firmly and evenly using the back of a spoon or a silicone spatula.
Bake the flapjacks in the preheated oven for 18-20 minutes or until golden brown.
Remove the square baking tin from the oven. The mixture will appear slightly soft but it is ready!Score the flapjacks - gently score the mixture into 8 bars without cutting all the way through. This makes it easier to remove them later.
Leave the mixture in the tin to cool and set.
Use the parchment paper to lift the Flapjacks out of the tin onto a wire rack. Use a very sharp knife to slice the flapjacks into bars.

Use Porridge Oats over Rolled OatsPorridge Oats gives the best results texturally. I like a chewy flapjack that are soft rather than crispy bars.Press the flapjack mixture down into the square tinThis will help them to bind together fully.The flapjacks will set as they coolWhen you first remove the bars from the oven, they will look like they aren’t set. They will set as they cool.Use a sharp knife to slice the barsUse a sharp knife to slice the bars to get even bars. You can also cut them into smaller pieces if you prefer.
Chocolate Chip flapjacks Recipe Variations
Golden SyrupThis can be swapped for either honey or agave syrup. You can also add some Brown Sugar. The golden syrup has more caramel flavours and a light molasses flavour.Chocolate ChipsUse Milk, Dark or White or a combination of all 3. White Chocolate Chips are very sweet, so I would suggest using only a few of them.
As well as the main ingredients, you can also add the following:
Nuts or SeedsStir in some chopped Nuts such as Walnuts, Pecans or Almonds. You could also add Pumpkin, Seeds and Sunflower Seeds. This makes the bars more like granola bars.CoconutAdd a tablespoon of desiccated coconut for a different flavour profile.ChocolateOnce the bars have set, you can pour over some Chocolate for more of a chocolate flavour.Dry FruitAdd other dried fruit such as Sultanas, Dates, Dry Figs or Cranberries in place of Raisins.
How to Serve Chocolate Chip Flapjacks
As a Snack - These Flapjacks can be enjoyed as they are, just as a snack. With a Brew - Or serve them with a hot drink such as a cup of Tea, Coffee or Hot Chocolate. Chocolate - You can also serve them with a drizzle of melted Chocolate.
Storage for Easy Chocolate Chip Flapjack Recipe
These Flapjacks can be stored in an airtight container at room temperature, for up to 1 week. You can also store them in the fridge for up to a couple of weeks. Just make sure to let them come to room temperature before eating.
How to freeze Flapjacks
Once baked and slices, wrap the bars in cling film and then a layer of parchment paper/greaseproof paper and store in an airtight container for up to 3 months. Defrost at room temperature for 30 minutes before enjoying.
