These 4 Ingredients Chocolate Flapjacks are the best, They are an easy treat to make and have throughout the week. The best thing about them, very few ingredients and effort are required to make them.  Oh and they last in a sealed container for up to a week. If you can hold out that long. I can’t.

These are made minus the usual golden syrup because that stuff tastes great but I prefer to keep stay away from it most of the time.

Flapjacks have to be the ultimate in simple yet satisfying treats. They are great for energy dips and go amazingly with a cuppa. My dad loves flapjacks too so making them always reminds me of him.

Whats one of those?

So some of my readers are based abroad and I only recently realised that flapjacks aren’t around everywhere else.

II believe that in some countries, a flapjack is a variation of a pancake.

That’s not what these are of course. These are more like a dense, chewy granola type oat bar, that are perfect for mid afternoon snacks or any time of the day really. Also great for walks and the kids lunchboxes.

Variations

Feel free to add whatever ingredients you like. Such as:

Nuts and Seeds – Cashews, Almonds, Walnuts, Pecans, Macadamias, Pumpkin Seeds, Hemp Seeds, Sunflower Seeds

Dried fruits – Cherries, Raisins, Sultanas

Chocolate Chips – Any colour you like

Spices – Ginger, Nutmeg, Cinnamon, Cardamom – whatever you like

Fruits – Raspberries for well. I imagine that grated apples would work, although I think you would have to have a play around with ingredients. I wouldn’t recommend sticking an orange in there. I mean you can give it a try. I have actually made these with orange juice before though so I know that works. Gosh I do love to waffle.

Kids fave activity

If ever there was a recipe that is perfect to make with the kids, this is it. Few ingredients, simple steps, loads of mixing = kids love that stuff.

Ingredients

  • 250 g Unsalted Butter
  • 200 ml Honey
  • 500 g Oats
  • 100 g Dark Chocolate chopped

Instructions

  1. Warm the honey in a small pan over medium heat for 2 minutes.

  2. Gently melt the butter in a separate pan. Mix in the oats and let the mixture cool a little before adding the chocolate.

  3. Add to a well greased lined tray.

  4. Bake at 180 C/GM 4 for 25 - 30 minutes until cooked. When it comes out of the oven, use a spatula to press down on the flapjacks.

  5. Allow to cool before removing from the tray and cutting into bars.

Recipe Notes

  • You can all the spices and other variations mentioned in the post.
  • The butter in this recipe can cause the flapjacks to rise and then drop. So use a spatula to really press them as flat as possible, once they come out of the oven.
